The first Animation on television was in 1938 and was called Willie the worm. it was made for the the televison company and sparked off animation on tv. from then on more and more animation was on television and as the years went on Animated tv serries started to develop. the first successful animated television serries was the flintstones which aired in 1960 to 1966. this was considered successful as it drew a audience in mainly children. other animated televison serries around that time was Top cat, the jetsons and The Alvin show.
As animation grew in populaity the quainty increased. this lead to several television channels being created just for cartoons. a example of this is Nickelodeon which was created in december 1979. this lead to more popular cartoons and animation being shown to a wider audience. in the 1990's "adult animation" was created. adult animation means that the animation being shown was strictly for adults and not for children.examples of adult cartoons that was on television are The Simpsons, Family guy, south park and american dad. these animations were usually shown later on at night

The Jetsons was another early cartoon serries and very popular at the time. it was first aired on 1962.

the simpsons is argubely the most succesful cartoon tv serries ever made. it is classed as a adult animation. it was made in 1987 when it appeared on a televison show as a short sketch. the televison serries was that popular that a film was made which equally did very well at the box office making 527 million dollars.

the spiderman cartoon serries was very successful and spanned several serries and programs. it was first made in 1967.

south park is another adult animation. it was first created in 1997. south park, like the simpons, was so succesful that they made a film which was very succesful at the box office.

tom and jerry was a very succesful cartoon serries which was created in 1940 and is still shown today. it is aimed at a younger audience.
